Meet Our Superintendent

This summer we welcomed our new Superintendent of the Children’s Fresh Air Home, Becca Proctor, who comes to us with a background in special education and summer camp management. Becca began working in the Summit, NJ public school system in 2019 as a paraprofessional. In this role, she provided instructional support to students in the Learning and Language Disability (LLD) program in both a 1:1 and small group capacity. In 2023, Becca joined the Immaculate Conception School community in Somerville, NJ as the Intervention and Support Specialist, developing and implementing intervention programs for students in grades PK-8.  She has since been promoted to Director of Special Services at Immaculate Conception School and continues to serve the school community in that capacity.

Along with her experience in education, Becca comes with five years’ experience in Summer Camp Management. She served as the summer camp Director for the Department of Community Programs municipal summer camp in Summit, NJ. In this role, Becca developed programming and managed the day-to-day operations of more than 350 campers and 40 counselors. Additionally, she helped to implement inclusion camp programming. This programming allowed children with disabilities in surrounding towns to experience summer camp alongside their peers in a way that was not previously available to them. 

When asked why she wants to get involved in the Children’s Fresh Air Home, Becca said the following: “When I first heard about the Children’s Fresh Air Home, I spent some time researching the beginnings of the organization and how the mission progressed over time. What I learned is, this organization was founded on the mission of service to the most vulnerable among us; the children. The mission of our founder, Mrs. L. Ida Dukes, which was then carried on by her successors, Miss Myra Loring, Laura and Kris Perkins, and Karen and Craig Willie was rooted in the following quote from the Book of Matthew 19:14, But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Every person who has taken up the role of Superintendent of the Children’s Fresh Air Home has done so with a spirit of service and a heart of love and understanding for every child who comes through the home. They have sought to cultivate an environment where every child, regardless of circumstance, can grow, thrive, learn, and play. I am nothing short of honored to pick up where they left off twenty years ago, and rebuild that space of unending support, love, fun, and learning, and to serve children for the many years to come in the beautiful seashore town of North Wildwood.”
